Commissioned artist Leo Villareal demonstrates his proposed Bay Bridge LED display and explains the inspiration behind the art project.


The Bay Lights will live for two years on the iconic West Span of The Bay Bridge. It will include 25,000 individually addressable LEDs programmed by artist Leo Villareal to display a fine arts experience like no other: 1.5 miles long and 500ft high!

The Bay Lights artist Leo Villareal orchestrates complex, rhythmic artwork composed exclusively of points of light; his groundbreaking work is part of the permanent collection of major museums worldwide.
