The St Lawrence String Quartet performs world-wide and has been ensemble in residence at Stanford University since 1998. In this program, based on their “Haydn Discovery Series”, the quartet talks about and plays Haydn’s String Quartet in C major, Opus 20 no. 2. In the SLSQ’s telling, Haydn’s string quartets reward active listening, where just a little familiarity with his tools and tricks goes a long way. They show how Haydn revolutionized the art of string quartet writing, introducing new forms and displaying a remarkable variety of developmental techniques as well as inventive and surprising harmonic and melodic moments. The exciting performance is followed by a lively Q&A session with the audience.
The The St Lawrence String Quartet members are Geoff Nuttall, violin; Owen Dalby, violin; Lesley Robertson, viola; and Christopher Costanza, cello.
