Jonathan Rapping is an American criminal defense attorney, professor of law at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School and Harvard Law School, and founder and president of Gideon’s Promise. He received the MacArthur “Genius” Award in 2014 and is one of our country’s leading advocates for equal justice and adequate public defense.
In the US, over 80% of the people in prison are too poor to afford a lawyer. Gideon’s Promise is building a network of public defenders who challenge the system around how it views and treats people we have been conditioned to see as “others”. They are raising the standard of justice in our nation’s most broken systems, and restoring the humanity of people it affects.
