John Harrison And The Measurement Of Longitude – In Search Of Science – Earth Lab

In 1714, the British Government offered, by Act of Parliament, £20,000 for a solution which could provide longitude to within half-a-degree (2 minutes of time). Up stepped John Harrison, a self educated English Carpenter who took on the Science establishment with his Portable Clock, and won.
