Andrea Thumshirn, a German National Hockey Player, is the founder of Hockey Village India (HVI), which aims at empowering underprivileged kids in rural India through education and sport. She left her comfortable lifestyle in Berlin to move to rural India, and has been hard at work for the past 6 years now to make a difference.
Andrea’s journey in India is a remarkable story of perseverance and grit towards kids’ upliftment against the backdrop of patriarchism, and cultural and religious prejudices in a conservative rural society. Her project had faced roadblocks twice after dedicating 3 years each in two villages of Rajasthan and she is starting a fresh chapter in Coorg. In spite of the obstacles, several kids who never spoken English nor traveled outside of their mandal, have ended up representing their district & state hockey teams.
